U11'S ANGLO-WELSH FESTIVAL
Newent played brilliantly in the Angl-Welsh Festival held at Luctonians Sports Club, Hereford.
Unfortunately they fell at the final hurdle which cost them a place in the semi-finals.
A strange tournament set-up conspired to give Newent the rough end of the stick by coupling
them with last years winners Rhiwbina in the group matches. Ledbury, however, had the luxury of not playing the Welsh side.
Nevertheless Newent gave Rhiwbina a huge shock by matching them in all departments and only a debateable decision prevented
a famous victory. Newent's try in the 7-7 draw was scored by their Captain SEB VENN and converted by MARCUS BALLINGER.
In their second contest Newent lowered the colours of a powerful Monmouth side 21-14 with
tries from GEORGE HUMPHRIS, MATT ANDERSON and SEB VENN. MARCUS BALLINGER converted.
Against Bromyard, Newent's forwards dominated again and ran out 12-0 winners thanks
to tries from JOSH COLE and RICHARD SAMUEL plus a MARCUS BALLINGER conversion.
In their crucial final match, Newent's small squad faced Ledbury. Although they fought
tenaciously, previous hard matches in the blazing sun took it's toll and just before the final whistle Ledbury crossed the
line to give them a 7-0 win.
